Writing

We endeavour to deliver an innovative English Curriculum, where excellent early language development is promoted and written and oral communication, and creativity is a high priority.

Writing is taught through the Ruth Miskin ‘Literacy and Language’ scheme from Year 2 upwards. The scheme develops children’s comprehension, writing and spoken language.

We use a step-by-step approach through whole class shared reading of complete texts, to develop comprehension skills and give children the confidence and skills to write ambitiously and accurately. In addition, we teach writing through regular extended writes linked to current history and geography topics and through our topic linked ‘Book Based Literacy’ texts (see Reading Curriculum Overview)

We use the Ruth Miskin ‘Literacy and Language’ scheme in Years 2 to 6 to support in the teaching of Writing. For further information about the Ruth Miskin Scheme, please click here.

Further information on our Writing Curriculum  including the current topics,  can be found below and in the half-termly newsletters sent home to each class.
