Writing

We endeavour to deliver an innovative English Curriculum, where excellent early language development is promoted and written and oral communication, and creativity is a high priority.

We have constructed our own curriculum using a blend of ‘Book based Literacy’  and the ‘Language and Literacy ‘ scheme . Our carefully constructed curriculum  develops children’s comprehension, writing and spoken language.

We use a step-by-step approach through whole class shared reading of complete texts, to develop comprehension skills and give children the confidence and skills to write ambitiously and accurately. In addition, we teach writing through regular extended writes linked to current history and geography topics and through our topic linked ‘Book Based Literacy’ texts.

Spelling

From Year 2, we use Ruth Miskin’s ‘Read, Write, Inc Spelling’ to ensure spelling success. Underpinned by phonics, the programme covers all of the spelling requirements of the National Curriculum. For further information on the Ruth Miskin Spelling Scheme, please click here.
